Her Majesty only recently learnt that she was the very first to receive the junior lifeguard award, during a call last week with the Royal Life Saving Society. When told 80 years had since passed, she proclaimed: “That’s terrible!”
The Queen is patron of the Royal Life Saving Society, which was founded in London in 1891 and with the support of Lord Louis Mountbatten, and then Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore Life Saving Society in 1967.
